With the incredible depth in each classification, this felt like a great time to bring back the old MP and expand to a Top 15. Plus, our customary five honorable mention. So, basically a Top 20…

  1. Cartersville 6-0 (Defeated Ridgeland 42-7) Are they actually number one?
  2. Buford 5-1 (Defeated North Hall 49-0) Are they actually number one?
  3. Woodward Academy 6-0 (Defeated Troup 51-21) The offense has seemingly not missed a beat since Holyfield went down.
  4. Mary Persons 6-0 (Defeated Howard 47-21) Perhaps, the most underrated championship contender in the class.
  5. Bainbridge 7-0 (Defeated Worth Co 30-14) Perhaps, the most underrated championship contender in the class.
  6. St Pius X 4-2 (Defeated Marist 24-14) Some people doubted them before this win.
  7. Jonesboro 6-1 (Defeated Spalding 21-9) The Cards have proven themselves.
  8. Sandy Creek 5-1 (Defeated Whitewater 42-7) Now that the Patriots have hit their stride, debate begins again as to how far in the tourney this team can go.
  9. Marist 5-2 (Lost to St Pius X 24-14) No shame in this loss. The two teams know each other so well.
  10. Spalding 6-1 (Lost to Jonesboro 21-9)
  11. Liberty County 5-2 (Defeated Burke County 26-20)
  12. Burke County 5-2 (Lost to Liberty County 26-20) From Burke down to the honorable mention: dangerous, inconsistent teams that could still win a couple of playoff games.
  13. Thomson 5-1 (Defeated Clarkston 56-7)
  14. West Laurens 5-2 (Lost to Veterans 14-7)
  15. Stephens County 5-1 (Defeated White County 21-20) Five-star lineman Ben Cleveland is still out via school suspension. For what, we do not know.

Chris Mooneyham is a twenty-year broadcast veteran employed or freelancing for multiple companies across America. Currently he is a co-host, play-by-play person and guest anchor for Atlanta’s sports leader, The Fan 680AM/ 93.7FM; and its sister stations on The Sports X. In the Fall, Chris serves as the Sideline Reporter for Kennesaw State University football. He also works as studio host, play-by-play announcer and content producer for The Fan’s coverage of Georgia High School football. Come the Wintertime, the focus shifts to the National Lacrosse League 2017 World Champions, the Georgia Swarm (play-by-play). When Spring rolls around, the Atlanta native delivers the play-by-play for the Emory University baseball team, a two-time national finalist. All throughout the year, Mooneyham is a lead play-by-play person for the NFHS Network’s high school sports coverage and over the last decade was honored to call state championships in nearly every sport. A Kennesaw State graduate, Chris holds a Communication degree in Media Studies and a Minor degree in Film Studies. He is also a two-time graduate of broadcasting school (Connecticut School of Broadcasting-1998/ Atlanta Broadcast Institute-2008).
