3A…All but one region is represented from #1 through the honorable mention this week…

  1. Calhoun 4-0 (Defeated North Murray 55-17) Next for the Yellow Jackets is perhaps the best two teams on their regular season schedule: Ringgold and Adairsville.
  2. Blessed Trinity 4-0 (Defeated Jackson, ATL 49-12) Milton Shelton: 19 carries, 239 yards, and six touchdowns. That’s all.
  3. Jefferson 4-0 (Idle) The Dragons get a week off before their biggest region title competitor: Elbert Co.
  4. Elbert County 4-0 (Defeated Laney 32-19) The Blue Devils, #10 Hart County, and #3 Jefferson are the class of Region 8. EC plays Hart Co this week and Jefferson next week.
  5. Cedar Grove 3-1 (Defeated Douglass 40-13) The Saints schedule eases up from here. Until they face either Blessed Trinity or Westminster in the region cross-over championship game.
  6. Peach County 3-1 (Defeated Spencer 41-0) Otha Redding with two rushing scores and an interception return for a touchdown.
  7. Westside, Macon 4-0 (Defeated Central, Macon 24-21) Closer than it should have been, but it was a rivalry game after all.
  8. Central Carrollton 4-0 (Defeated Fayette Co 20-14) This week the Lions take on a very good Landmark Christian team from 1A Private.
  9. Westminster 2-2 (Defeated Towers 32-8) Not one publication puts Westminster in their top ten; this is a mistake. Two losses by 13 combined points; to a top five team (Elbert Co) and a future playoff team (Laney). The Cats didn’t have their starting QB vs Laney.
  10. Hart County 3-1 (Defeated Oglethorpe Co 44-22) Their re-appearance in the top ten might be short lived with a matchup versus Elbert Co this week.

HM: Adairsville 3-0, Pierce Co 3-1, Dodge Co 4-0, Oconee County 3-1, Cook 2-2

Come the Wintertime, the focus shifts to the National Lacrosse League 2017 World Champions, the Georgia Swarm (play-by-play). When Spring rolls around, the Atlanta native delivers the play-by-play for the Emory University baseball team, a two-time national finalist. All throughout the year, Mooneyham is a lead play-by-play person for the NFHS Network’s high school sports coverage and over the last decade was honored to call state championships in nearly every sport. A Kennesaw State graduate, Chris holds a Communication degree in Media Studies and a Minor degree in Film Studies. He is also a two-time graduate of broadcasting school (Connecticut School of Broadcasting-1998/ Atlanta Broadcast Institute-2008).
