The Mooneyham Poll is ready for the start of the NFL season if only so that we don’t have to hear about the Brady-Deflate Gate saga; so who plays tonight?…GHSA 4A football rankings…

4A…This week, the biggest games come from outside the classification: Woodward Academy hosts Lovett (2A), West Laurens at Westside-Macon (3A), Cartersville hosts North Paulding (6A), Mary Persons at Lamar County (2A)

  1. Cartersville 2-0 (Defeated North Cobb 34-31) Taimon Pennymon rushes for two scores, catches another and returns an INT for a TD. Canes and NC combine for 34 fourth quarter points.
  2. Woodward Academy 2-0 (Defeated St Pius 36-29 Double OT) What a Friday for Elijah Holyfield. He commits to UGA and goes for 183 yards and four scores.
  3. Buford 2-1 (Lost to McEachern 37-14) Both teams scored on their first plays from scrimmage and the Indians pulled after Buford drew to within 17-14.
  4. Mary Persons 2-0 (Defeated Washington County 38-14) MP trailed 14-7 and got three scores from Zach Harvey.
  5. West Laurens 3-0 (Defeated Bleckley County 42-7) The Raiders punch it in five times in the second frame and three came after turnovers.
  6. Marist 1-1 (Defeated Lovett 16-15) It wasn’t pretty for the War Eagles, but a nice win over a Lovett team desperate for a win.
  7. Jonesboro 3-0 (Defeated Westover 27-7) Another hero for the Cards as Montralius Mosley rushes for three scores.
  8. Sandy Creek 2-1 (Defeated Hampton 49-6) No challenge here; just a chance for the Patriots to work on execution.
  9. Burke County 3-0 (Defeated Griffin 28-27) If you cover high school football, or follow it closely, you shouldn’t be surprised by this BC team.
  10. St Pius 0-2 (Lost to Woodward Academy 36-29 Double OT) Two quality losses keep the Golden Lions in the top ten; barely.

HM: Bainbridge 2-0, Thomson 2-0, Cairo 0-1, Griffin 1-1

When Spring rolls around, the Atlanta native delivers the play-by-play for the Emory University baseball team, a two-time national finalist. All throughout the year, Mooneyham is a lead play-by-play person for the NFHS Network’s high school sports coverage and over the last decade was honored to call state championships in nearly every sport. A Kennesaw State graduate, Chris holds a Communication degree in Media Studies and a Minor degree in Film Studies. He is also a two-time graduate of broadcasting school (Connecticut School of Broadcasting-1998/ Atlanta Broadcast Institute-2008).
