5A…Two state championship contenders, Kell and Northside Warner Robins, lose key pieces…

  1. Houston County (Idle)
  2. Northside, Warner Robins 1-0 (Defeated North Cobb 27-24)…The Eagles trailed 24-13 with five minutes remaining; BUT, all-state caliber DB Chris Haughton was taken to the hospital with a knee injury.
  3. Ware County 1-0 (Defeated Brooks County 42-7) Power rush game and stifling defense turned a 14-7 halftime score into a breeze.
  4. Kell 1-0 (Defeated Carrollton 35-0) Bryson Armstrong is a beast; but losing James DeMatto is a very big deal.
  5. Stockbridge 1-0 (Defeated Central, AL 13-7) We will see scores like this all year from the Tigers.
  6. Lanier 1-0 (Defeated Lambert 17-7) Lambert led 7-0 in the first quarter.
  7. Carver, Columbus 1-0 (Defeated Carver, ATL 28-24) The Tigers rallied from down 24-14 in the final quarter.
  8. Creekside 1-0 (Defeated South Cobb 33-13) Meet Sabree Curtis. He rushes for 219 yards.
  9. Glynn Academy 1-0 (Defeated Wayne County 28-14) Fittingly, Deejay Dallas scores their first touchdown on a short catch, then run; on the first play of the season.
  10. Mays 1-0 (Defeated Hughes 36-26) Really, really nice win. The fact that the re-tooled Raider offense could do that versus the Hughes defense is worth noting.

When Spring rolls around, the Atlanta native delivers the play-by-play for the Emory University baseball team, a two-time national finalist. All throughout the year, Mooneyham is a lead play-by-play person for the NFHS Network’s high school sports coverage and over the last decade was honored to call state championships in nearly every sport. A Kennesaw State graduate, Chris holds a Communication degree in Media Studies and a Minor degree in Film Studies. He is also a two-time graduate of broadcasting school (Connecticut School of Broadcasting-1998/ Atlanta Broadcast Institute-2008).
