The Mooneyham Poll…the first GHSA football rankings of 2015…1A classification

Back from the high atop the Andes; sunburned from its time in Cozumel and broke from the visit to Mozambique, The Mooneyham Poll has returned.

1A…The first, and last, MP every year provides us the Top 15 teams in each class…

  1. Marion County…It’s all about Lorenzo Smothers now.
  2. Aquinas…Last two years for SR QB Liam Welch: 59%/ 3900 Yards/ 53 Td/ 8 Int.
  3. Calvary Day…Sal Calderon is back after the broken leg and sources tell me he is ready.
  4. Hawkinsville…The defending champs lose their top three defenders.
  5. Savannah Christian…Demetris Robertson, one of the most electrifying players in state.
  6. ELCA…The Chargers look to continue last year’s momentum.
  7. Charlton County…Trying to bounce back from devastating playoff loss.
  8. Commerce…The top four public schools are all down this year; these guys could step into the title game.
  9. Irwin County…Jakyron Young, Robert Moore and 4 OL graduated.
  10. Clinch County…Future Bulldog, DE Chauncey Manac, is still growing as a player.
  11. Landmark Christian…One of the more physical private schools in the state
  12. Mt Paran…The defending state champs lost as much talent as anyone in any classification.
  13. Prince Avenue…The Wolverines have reached at least the quarters in four straight seasons.
  14. Tattnall Square…The 11-time GISA champs won 10 games in their first GHSA season.
  15. ECI…The Bulldogs lost top offensive weapon Michael Sutton.

Chris Mooneyham is a twenty-year broadcast veteran employed or freelancing for multiple companies across America. Currently he is a co-host, play-by-play person and guest anchor for Atlanta’s sports leader, The Fan 680AM/ 93.7FM; and its sister stations on The Sports X. In the Fall, Chris serves as the Sideline Reporter for Kennesaw State University football. He also works as studio host, play-by-play announcer and content producer for The Fan’s coverage of Georgia High School football. Come the Wintertime, the focus shifts to the National Lacrosse League 2017 World Champions, the Georgia Swarm (play-by-play). When Spring rolls around, the Atlanta native delivers the play-by-play for the Emory University baseball team, a two-time national finalist. All throughout the year, Mooneyham is a lead play-by-play person for the NFHS Network’s high school sports coverage and over the last decade was honored to call state championships in nearly every sport. A Kennesaw State graduate, Chris holds a Communication degree in Media Studies and a Minor degree in Film Studies. He is also a two-time graduate of broadcasting school (Connecticut School of Broadcasting-1998/ Atlanta Broadcast Institute-2008).
