Tonight on 680 The Fan’s Friday Night Football…

…the North Paulding Wolfpack visit the North Cobb Warriors.

Make sure to join us at 7pm tonight on 680thefan/ 93.7fm/ 680thefan.com

I am very excited to be back out in the field tonight (not that I don’t enjoy being in the studio!) for the play-by-play of the contest tonight. So, Steve West, Chip Yaggi and Chad Potier will set-up the evening around the state, bring you the halftime show, and the Scoreboard/Post-game show. Doug Konkel, Brandon Joseph and I will be live at Emory Sewell Stadium in Kennesaw.

Residing in the middle of the pack in Region 4 in the 6A classification, both North Paulding and North Cobb know coming into tonight’s affair that a playoff berth will be clinched with a win. However, a loss by either team, leaves their destiny in the hands of other teams.

North Paulding is 4-5 overall and 3-2 Region 4 6A. Their offensive has been explosive this year; featuring the state’s leading passer (Junior Kyle Banks: 3,072 yards/ 29 touchdowns) and the state’s second leading receiver in yardage (Junior DJ Owens: 1,079 yards/ 12 touchdowns). The Wolfpack average 35 ppg and have eclipsed the 34-point plateau in seven of their nine contests. However, their weakness has nearly cost them a playoff berth. They are being outscored by opponents 385-313 overall this season (43-35 per game) and have allowed seven teams to scored 30-points or more. A couple of notable scores: Hillgrove 72, NP 46…McEachern 60, NP 34…and Allatoona 56, NP 35.

The ‘Pack is led by Head Coach Scott Jones, now in his third season, where he has put together a 23-11 record.

As for North Cobb, they too will reach the playoffs with a victory tonight. The enter the matchup at 5-3 overall and 2-2 in Region 4 6A. The Warriors have outscored opponents 249-228 overall (31-29 per game). This is one of those teams that has lost a lot, and I mean a lot, of talent over the last two seasons. They do still have the services of one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country, senior Tyler Queen. The future Auburn Tiger has nearly 1,600 yards passing for 19 touchdowns and has accounted for 250 yards and seven scores on the ground. In fact, this version of the Warriors offensive attack has been a little more rush focused than in the last two seasons.

With Queen being joined in the backfield by Senior running back Bryce Perryman (653 yards, including 235 last week versus Marietta) and Sophomore CJ Cole (310 yards and 2 touchdowns) the Warriors have controlled the clock a little more than usual.

The Warriors are led by Head Coach Shane Queen. The quarterback’s father has a 60-37 record in his nine seasons leading the program.

Again, the winner tonight guarantees a playoff berth. Tonight’s loser will most likely make the post-season just the same, but they will need help. Both NP and NC own the head to head tie-breaker with Harrison. With one Hoyas loss, NP is in the playoffs. For NC, they need a win tonight OR next week, AND a Hoyas loss.
